River Carnival Costume Attire Display @ The Hanson House
Cranford’s colorful past included a “River Carnival,” an annual event held usually in July along the Rahway River. To celebrate past iterations of this event, the Costume Department will showcase several mannequins attired in their ‘summer best’ at the Hanson House. These will feature a women’s garment known as a “lingerie dress’ which was a an all-white dress, accented with lace and widely worn at the turn of the 20th century and other examples of summer wear from the Costume Collection.
Additionally, invitations will be sent out to historic costumers to attend in their reproduction period costume. Many of these people sew authentic historic ensembles and we hope to see them grace our building and the surrounding park.
We invite all to come out to the Hanson House, 38 Springfield Avenue, on September 18th from 1-4pm to view the display.
